A Tesla Cybertruck Owner Says His 1-Year-Old Son Ended Up Locked Inside The Cybertruck When He Went Out To Charge His It – He Adds, “The Truck Was Heating Up Fast, I Almost Had To Break The Window”

Greg Gastelum, a Cybertruck owner from California, says he drove his Cybertruck to a supercharger with his 1-year-old son secured in a child seat in the back.
As the sun beamed down, Greg stepped out, closed the door, and plugged in his truck at the supercharger. However, when he returned, he found that his truck had locked itself, and the door wouldn’t open.
Greg shared his experience on the Cybertruck Owners Only group on Facebook.
He writes…
“I had a scare at the Supercharger today. I parked, hopped out to plug in, and left my phone inside the car like I always do. My one-year-old son was strapped into his seat in the back. I shut the door, walked around to plug in, came back to jump in, and the truck had locked itself with my son inside.”
At this point, the situation quickly became urgent: the truck was overheating, Greg’s 1-year-old son was trapped inside, and there was no way to unlock it.
Thankfully, Greg says the person next to him let him borrow his phone, and he was able to call Tesla. The EV maker was able to unlock his truck remotely.
Greg mentions that the whole ordeal took several minutes, and by the time he got his child out of the truck, he was already covered in sweat.
Greg continues to write…
“Thank God for my work. I’m trained to stay calm amidst chaos.
Someone charging next to me kindly let me borrow their phone so I could call Tesla.
After a few minutes of verifying my Cybertruck details, they remotely unlocked the doors. Huge relief.

I was seconds away from breaking the rear window because the car was heating up fast, and when I got him out, he was already covered in sweat.”
Finally, Greg concludes his post writing…
“Thank you, Tesla!
Has this happened to anyone else? Seems like my phone key disconnected somehow.”
Below his post, Greg shared a video of the incident recorded by the truck’s sentry camera.
In the video, you can see Greg pacing back and forth next to the Cybertruck, talking on the phone with Tesla.
You can also see the truck plugged into the supercharger and the man who lent him the phone standing nearby, looking worriedly through the Cybertruck’s windows.
This is definitely a bizarre situation, and looking at the comments, fellow Cybertruck owners had a lot of questions about what exactly happened.
First, several Cybertruck owners asked why Greg didn’t call his wife or a family member so they could unlock the truck remotely from their phone.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Darren Le, asks…

“Can’t you call your wife?”
A second Cybertruck owner, Dan Trickel, asks…
“Your wife doesn’t have the app or access to your truck?”
In response, Greg says his wife is a nurse and was sleeping at home after a night shift, so she didn’t hear his call.
He writes…
“I called my wife on the phone. The nice gentleman who lent me his phone allowed me to call her first, but she’s a nurse and was asleep because she just finished a night shift. I was planning to have her unlock it from my Apple Watch at home.”
A lot of Cybertruck owners also recommended hiding a key card somewhere around the truck to be used as a backup key in case this ever happens.
A fellow Cybertruck owner, Tory Riccardi, writes…
“Hide one of your truck card keys under the truck.”
Another Cybertruck owner, Alex Appelhans, writes…
“Go to Controls, then Locks, scroll down, and enable Phone Left Behind Chime. When you walk away, it will alert you if you’ve left your phone behind, and the doors won’t lock. I have used it several times.”
