OKLAHOMA CITY –
The City of Oklahoma City has announced the name of the new professional soccer club scheduled to begin playing in 2028.
During Oklahoma City Mayor Holt’s 2026 State of the City address, Holt announced the team will be named OKC United. The team will begin play at the new MAPS 4 stadium in time for the 2028 USL Champions League season.
The name and the team’s primary jersey were revealed in a video at the end of the State of the City address. Watch the full video below:
The Name
OKC United was chosen from a list of thousands of potential names. Prior to 2023, OKC was home to Energy FC, until USL rule changes forced the team to go dormant. When the team was scheduled to return, it was decided a complete overhaul would be done.

In a statement, Christian Kanady, founder and CEO of Echo Investment Capital, and majority owner of OKC United, said, “the name OKC United is a statement rooted in centuries of soccer history and the deep commitment to community that builds this city on a daily basis. Our team and its culture will make Oklahomans proud for generations as we compete for championships year after year. This will be a world-class soccer club built for a world-class city.”
According to OKC United, the signifier “United” was chosen as this soccer club represents an entire community, united as OKC continues its rise.”
The Crest

In addition to the name, OKC United’s primary crest was revealed as part of the 2026 State of the City. The crest was designed by Matthew Wolff and OKC United creative director Russell Westbrook.

The crest features 39 sun rays, representing the 39 tribes in Oklahoma. The shield forms an arrowhead, which the team’s statement cites as, “an intentional nod to Oklahoma’s Native American heritage.”
The shield features a zig-zag border, a reference to Oklahoma sports icon Jim Thorpe, whose Sac-and-Fox name Wa-Tho-Huk translates to “bright path,” per OKC United.
“A crest is more than a logo. It’s a mirror,” said Westbrook. “It has to reflect the city, the people and the club all at once, and it has to earn its place on a uniform. Oklahomans are proud and resilient. They don’t need to be told what they’re a part of — they feel it. That’s what this crest is built on. Every element ties back to Oklahoma’s past, present, and future. When you see it, you know it’s OKC.”
The Uniform
An image of the OKC United uniform was previewed in the video Holt played. The standard uniform—better known as a “kit” in the soccer world—is dark navy, with white detailing. The club crest is on the left breast of the kit, while the Echo Investment Capital logo is across the front. There is white detailing around the sleeves.

There are commonly multiple kits for any team, and the OKC United online store features the revealed kit in dark navy and sunset pink.
The Colors
The OKC United primary colors are Midnight Blue, Pink Sunset and Ivory Cloud. These colors, per the club announcement, were inspired by the Oklahoma sky.
The OKC United website reads, “every Oklahoman lives under the same sky. Now we’ll wear it too.”
The Stadium
OKC United will commence play in 2028 at the currently unnamed MAPS 4 multipurpose stadium. They will be a part of the United Soccer League Championship League.

Details such as alternate kits, coaching staff, team rosters or other aspects of a USL soccer team are yet to be announced.
