Highly-rated Manchester United youngster Darlington Osuchukwu has turned down a deal and will leave the club

Manchester United youngster Darlington Osuchukwu says he will leave the club after turning down a new contract in an emotional statement. The 16-year-old Spanish youth international is set to join Athletic Bilbao, according to reports in Spain.
Osuchukwu played for England in their teenage ranks but switched allegiances to Spain but now, United have been dealt a similar blow as he looks to make his mark elsewhere. The teenager has spent four years in the academy and was in the sticks as he picked up silverware for the under-14s and under-15s.
Kai Rooney, who recently signed a scholarship with United, was among the players to show support to the 16-year-old after his exit was confirmed. In a post to Instagram, Osuchukwu described playing for the club as ‘one of the greatest privileges’ of his career so far.

He wrote: “After four unforgettable years at this incredible club, I have made the incredibly difficult decision to move on and embrace a new challenge. This was not a decision my family and I took lightly. While I was grateful to be given the opportunity to continue my journey here, we believe the time is right to begin a new chapter.
“It is impossible to put into words how much this club has meant to me. I want to thank everyone at Manchester United—and I truly mean everyone. From the coaches who believed in me, to the kitmen who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and especially my teammates, who became so much more than teammates—they became my brothers.
“Every one of you has played a part in shaping not only the footballer I am today, but also the person I have become. The lessons, values, friendships, and memories I have gained here will stay with me for the rest of my life.
“I also want to thank the club for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to wear this badge. Representing Manchester United has been one of the greatest privileges of my young career, and something I will always be proud of.”Although I am moving on, Manchester United will always hold a special place in my heart. I leave with nothing but gratitude, respect, and memories that I will cherish forever. Thank you for everything.”
According to Spanish outlet Gol Digital, the departing United shot-stopper has been closely tracked by the Basque clubs’ recruitment staff for nearly 12 months.
Mikel Gonzalez is said to have identified him as a priority to strengthen their academy as the player aligns with the clubs’ philosophy. It has been said that Osuchukwu relocated to England from Spain for a family job, where he signed for United in 2022.
A host of clubs were said to be interested in his services, including Barcelona, while other European outfits such as Reims, Eintracht Frankfurt and Anderlecht were also mooted.
What the future holds for United’s academy goalkeeping ranks remains to be seen and if the rejection from the 16-year-old prompted movement.
In January, Charlie Hardy signed from Derby County with the teenager making the switch from the Rams to join the under-18s.
