Tottenham Hotspur have rejected an offer from Newcastle United for midfielder Lucas Bergvall.

The bid was around £46million (€54m) and exceeded the approaches made by Nottingham Forest to date.

All attempts to sign the 20-year-old so far, including higher proposals, have been rejected by Spurs — although a sale would be considered if the figures reach a level they deem suitable.

Bergvall is under contract until June 2031 but has informed the club of his preference to seek an opportunity elsewhere this summer.

The Athletic reported the Sweden internationals desire to leave in June and he has been the subject of attention from suitors in England and Europe.

Earlier this window, Newcastle sold midfielder Sandro Tonali to Spurs, while they missed out on the signing of Switzerland international Johan Manzambi, who moved to Aston Villa instead.

Bergvall is Forest’s primary target as they look to replace Elliot Anderson following his move to Manchester City for £116m.

The midfielder has made 78 appearances for Spurs since joining the club in a £8.5m deal from Swedish side Djurgarden in 2024.

Spurs have invested in midfield acquisitions this summer, having completed the £85m signing of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United, alongside the arrival of Tonali in a deal worth up to £100m.

Bergvall made 33 appearances for Spurs in all competitions last season, recording a single goal and five assists. In January, he underwent surgery after sustaining a high sprain on his left ankle, and was sidelined until March.
