Traffic warning for drivers after motorway closure

Motorists on the M5 are being warned of long delays following a police-led incident.

Heavy traffic remains on the now-reopened motorway in Somerset after it was shut in both directions between junction 23 for Dunball and junction 24 for Bridgwater earlier.

According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, there is still congestion northbound to junction 26 for Wellington and congestion southbound to junction 22 for Burnham-on-Sea.

Avon and Somerset Police thanked drivers for their patience and understanding following delays of up to two hours on the approach earlier. Motorists are still being advised to avoid the area and allow extra time to travel.

The A38 Taunton Road and roads around Bridgwater, North Petherton and East Brent are also heavily congested.
