Australian actor and former Neighbours star Terence Donovan has died aged 90.
Donovan’s son and fellow Australian small-screen star Jason shared news of his father’s death on Sunday.
“It is with great sadness but also a sense of celebration of a long full life that myself and my brother Paul announce our father Terence died peacefully last night here in Melbourne,” he wrote on social media.
“Our dad was a huge character, larger than life.
“He was our best friend … our world!
“We will desperately miss him but we take comfort knowing we were all here by his side in his final days.”
Donovan was born in London in 1935 and moved to Australia with his family when he was 14 before becoming a star of the stage and screen.
His big break came when he was offered the part of Detective Mick Peters on Division 4, on which he starred from 1969 to 1975.
He starred in Aussie classics Break Morant and The Man from Snowy River.
He had roles on Prisoner, Sons and Daughters, A Country Practice and The Flying Doctors and starred on Home and Away as Al Simpson.
From 1990 to 1994 he was a part of the main cast of Neighbours as Doug Willis.
On Terence’s 90th birthday last year, Jason posted a tribute to his father on social media, calling him his “hero”.
“You’ve always placed me higher than you,” Jason said.
“Always wanted me to do better than you.
“I can’t think of any other that has wanted me to succeed both professionally and personally…
“You’ve been a best friend, a wing man, biggest critic.”
