Khloé Kardashian Shares How Late Grandma MJ Gave Her ‘One of My Greatest Blessings’ in Tribute After Her Death at 91

Khloé Kardashian is honoring her grandmother, who she said gave her one of the “greatest blessings” of her life.

Three days after Kris Jenner announced on July 16 that her mother, Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon, had died earlier that day at age 91, Khloé shared a tribute to her “sweet” grandmother. In a July 19 Instagram post, the Good American founder shared photos of herself with her grandma through the years as well as a message about MJ’s lasting “legacy” and impact.

“My sweet MJ,” Khloé, 42, wrote of the Kar-Jenner family fixture. “Thank you for showing us that life is meant to be celebrated, that laughter is healing, and that love is the greatest legacy we can leave behind. You lived so fully, so gracefully, and so beautifully.”

Khloé continued her message alongside the photos — including a shot of MJ holding her as a baby and an appearance from older sister Kourtney Kardashian — with a message about the role her grandmother played in the life of her two young kids, daughter True, 8, and son Tatum, 3.

“One of my greatest blessings will always be that my children knew their great-grandmother. That they experienced your hugs, your stories, your joy, and the incredible light you carried so effortlessly,” she wrote of of her kids, whom she shares with ex Tristan Thompson.

“You taught us that love never leaves,” Khloé continued of MJ, whom Kris, 70, has called the “rock” of their family. “It lives on in the family you built, the traditions we’ll continue, the stories we’ll tell, and every time we choose joy. Your love will forever be woven into who we are.”

“Thank you for every lesson, every laugh, every embrace, and every piece of your heart you gave so freely,” she continued. “You were truly one of one.”

The Good American founder continued, “I know Heaven welcomed you with open arms, surrounded by everyone who has been waiting to see you again. And I know you kept your promise 🤍telling my daddy [Robert Kardashian] just how deeply we love him and how much we miss him.”

She concluded her post with a special note about MJ’s younger daughter, Karen Houghton, who died in March 2024, and MJ’s late third husband, Harry Shannon. (MJ shared Kris and Karen with second husband Robert Houghton, but raised the girls on her own before meeting and marrying Shannon; their union lasted for 40 years, up until his death in 2003.)

“I know you’re happy having your Coke, tuna sandwich and graham crackers with papa Harry while Karen dances around you,” Khloé penned. “Until we meet again, my sweet MJ! I love you 🤍.”

Kris was first to announce MJ’s death on July 16. “There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye,” Kris captioned a portrait of her mom on Instagram. “My mom was the heart of our family. She taught me everything that truly matters … to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted.”

Kim Kardashian followed shortly after, posting an emotional Instagram tribute honoring MJ, whom she called “my best friend, my gossip buddy, my forever twin.”

“You taught all of us the importance of family, and those values are something we’ll carry with us forever!!!!!!” Kim, 45, wrote. 

Of her late grandmother, who owned a San Diego children’s boutique called Shannon & Co., she added, “You were the woman who showed me what it meant to be a hardworking businesswoman.”
