Minka Kelly Thanks Boyfriend Dan Reynolds for Loving Her ‘So Deeply’ as She Celebrates His 39th Birthday

Minka Kelly is celebrating boyfriend Dan Reynolds’ birthday.

The Imagine Dragons frontman turned 39 on Tuesday, July 14, and Kelly, 46, shared a tribute to him on Instagram. Alongside two photos, Kelly wrote, “Thank you for making ordinary days feel extraordinary, for making me laugh until I can’t breathe, and for loving so deeply and so freely.”

“Celebrating you is one of my favorite things to do,” she wrote in the caption of the post. “I love you, Dan. Happy birthday.”

The pair have been linked since 2022, after they were introduced by a mutual friend. At the time, Reynolds had recently divorced ex-wife Aja Volkman, with whom he shares four kids: Arrow, 13, twins Gia and Coco, 9, and Valentine, 6.

Reynolds told PEOPLE in 2024 that he and the actress were talking on the phone for a month before they met in person. At the time, she was working on her 2023 memoir Tell Me Everything, and he was working on Loom.

“She was very scared for me to read the book because we hadn’t met, just as much as I was scared for her to hear a song that I’d written. But we shared it and then it ended up being a really beautiful thing and brought us a lot closer,” he said. “I think it helped us both kind of understand each other on a deeper level quite quickly.”

Ever since they met in person for the first time that year, “We’ve been attached at the hip,” Reynolds said. “Minka and I are in a really happy, healthy relationship.” 

“The kids really love Minka and really love their mom, and that’s okay. We view it as kind of bonuses to the family: more people to love, more people to help,” he said. “We’ve just been really careful with that and slow with navigating how to bring Minka in to that conversation. She’s done a really incredible job of being sensitive and careful on her end as well.”

Last summer, Kelly and Reynolds took things to another level as she brought him in for a surprise cameo on Ransom Canyon, her Netflix romance series with Josh Duhamel.

“He came to visit and everyone, all the producers and writers, just naturally fell in love with him, like you do,” Kelly told PEOPLE. “It’s easy to love Dan.”

The musician was “such a good sport and down to play,” she said, after producers asked her to ask him about making a cameo.

“He’s an amazingly talented dude on many different fronts, but it takes one or two or three, maybe a couple scenes, and all those nerves go away,” Duhamel said.
