Man in custody after hourslong RV standoff outside Walmart on Rt. 38 in Lumberton, Burlington County

LUMBERTON, N.J. (WPVI) — An all-day standoff in Lumberton, New Jersey, ended Tuesday afternoon with the suspect being taken from the scene in an ambulance.

Officials said the incident began around 11:02 p.m. Monday and continued into Tuesday afternoon.

Chopper 6 was over the scene outside a Walmart on Route 38, where a man had barricaded himself inside an RV.

Authorities spent hours attempting to peacefully resolve the situation. During the standoff, Action News observed law enforcement using robots on the ground. At one point, officials flew a small drone through a window and into the RV.

After more than 14 hours, authorities began dismantling parts of the RV using an armored vehicle. The standoff ended around 3 p.m.

Investigators said the incident began as a dispute in the Walmart parking lot.

The man’s family told Action News that he was pepper-sprayed but was otherwise OK.

Residents were initially urged to avoid the area while authorities worked to resolve the standoff.

The man’s identity has not been released.

The incident remains under investigation.
