Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attempted to mend relations with the royals as the Sussexes reunited with King Charles for a private meeting earlier this month. But just weeks after their royal reunion, their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey has resurfaced. It comes as the billionaire entrepreneur and presenter, 72, reflected on her biggest career moments in a new interview with Vanity Fair.

The former daytime host addressed some of her biggest TV moments, including the famous 2004 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, in which she gave away 276 cars—worth over $7 million. Another career highlight included her sit-down interview with Meghan and Harry.

In 2021, Meghan and Harry sat down with the American host for their first-ever TV tell-all since stepping down from their royal duties and moving to the US. Meghan opened up about her time in the Royal Family, which prompted Oprah to confirm whether she was silent or silenced, to which the duchess swiftly responded, “the latter.”

Five years after the interview sparked global coverage and backlash among staunch royalists, Oprah reflected on the on-screen moment.

The former TV host cheekily took aim at herself as she imitated her zipped-lip gesture in the clip while jokingly stressing the word “silenced”

“I don’t know where the hell that came from,” the host admitted. Oprah then clarified why she asked the As Ever founder, “Were you silent or were you silenced?”

“I wanted to be clear, because was she silenced? Were people telling her not to talk? That’s why I said,” Oprah confirmed.

“I said it for clarification because I didn’t want to hear later, ‘well, no, it wasn’t that, it was really that I was silenced. They wouldn’t let me talk. So it was all for clarification,” added the philanthropist. Oprah also confirmed the tell-all interview had been postponed three times and took over three and a half hours.

The resurfaced 2021 interview could see old wounds resurface as Harry attempts a reconciliation with his royals. Social media users have since reacted to the clip, as one penned: “Why bring this up again? I mean… really interesting timing!”

Another echoed: “This interview didn’t age well.”

While a third reiterated the famous quote by late Queen Elizabeth II, “Recollections may vary,” when responding to allegations of racism and mistreatment made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during their interview with Oprah.

Another moment played to the American host was Harry’s explanation why he had gone public.

He said: “I need to do this for my family. This isn’t a surprise to anybody. It’s really sad that it’s got to this point. But I’ve got to do something for my own mental health, for my wife’s and for Archie’s as well because I could see where this was heading.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex left the UK in 2020 and moved to Montecito, California.
