Wildfire sparks in Chilliwack River Valley

A wildfire broke out in the Chilliwack River Valley on Wednesday.
The call came in to the Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department around 1:20 p.m. on July 22.
The fire was reported as a “substantially large area” and it was located a few kilometres away from the Ford Mountain Correctional Centre. It was moving towards a recovery centre east of the prison.
When the first crew arrived on scene, they initially said the fire was 100 feet by 100 feet in size, and then about 10 minutes later they stated it was 500 feet by 1,000 feet and creeping into the trees.
Crews from the Chilliwack Fire Department were called in with a tanker truck to help battle the wildfire.
The blaze was also called in to BC Wildfire Service and a helicopter from Hope arrived on scene around 2 p.m. A second helicopter was also brought in.
According to a social media post, one person had to travel down the mountain where there was cell service in order call 911 to report the fire.
