After a sleepy weekend and start to the week, the NHL news and trade rumors kicked up some dust Tuesday. The Pittsburgh Penguins’ most talked-about trade target is now off the market, for now, as Jason Robertson signed a team-friendly deal with the Dallas Stars to avoid arbitration. TSN looked at the players still on the trade block to decide who will move and who won’t before the season starts. There are a couple of remaining cases that might go to arbitration, including CBJ goalie Jet Greaves, who wants starter money. And former Penguins defenseman John Marino got a Rocky Mountain-sized payday from the Utah Mammoth.
Between you and me, I thought PHN had maintained a consistent line on the Robertson trade possibility. Credit to Josh Yohe for uncovering it first, and then Elliotte Friedman for his reports on Draft weekend, but for the many reasons we’ve discussed, it never seemed like the best move–especially as the trade market prices exploded.
But it also gets to me just a little when someone goes into the comments jumping ugly that we used clickbait or something akin. Like, what?! Discussing issues and topics that are top of mind to you is part of what we do. And as many of you know, PHN never takes the populist side for the sake of being part of the group, so while we may discuss an issue, it will be researched, examined, and fully analyzed.

Maybe someday, ESPN will bother with hockey content like the sport matters? Nah…

NHL.com: The collapse of regional sports networks is largely complete, save for a few sports-mad markets like Pittsburgh. To compensate for the regional networks going belly up, the NHL is stepping in to produce the broadcasts for several teams, including a pair of Metro Division clubs.
It’s a shame the NHL had to do it because they will act as a band-aid, not a growth mechanism. There are real solutions to the RSN crisis, but they’re too big for this guy to take on…
