PORTLAND (WGME) – Senator Susan Collins is calling Troy Jackson, her likely Democratic challenger, a “Bernie Bro.”
Collins made the comments Wednesday on Capitol Hill.
When questioned by a CNN reporter, she refused to talk about politics, since she was in a federal building in her capacity as Senator.
But when pressed on Troy Jackson, she acknowledged he’ll likely be the Democratic nominee.
Jackson is a “Democratic Socialist,” and she stood by her comments, calling him simply a “Socialist.”
“Well, he clearly is, you can tell, read his statements. He was Senator Sanders’ lead for Senator Sanders’ Presidential campaign in Maine. He’s a Bernie Bro,” Collins said.
She also says she’s known Jackson for years, pointing out they’re both from northern Maine.
A poll from the University of New Hampshire Tuesday has Jackson ahead of Collins with a slim lead, 49 to 46 percent.
