Two people were hospitalized after stabbings in broad daylight Thursday a block apart on the Upper West Side of New York City, near Central Park, according to law enforcement sources.

A 57-year-old man was walking near West 84th Street and Central Park West just after 1:30 p.m. when a man came up from behind him and stabbed him in the back without warning, police sources said.
The man continued walking up to 86th Street along the park, where he is alleged to have stabbed a 50-year-old man in the chest.
Both victims were taken to Mount Sinai West, where police described them as “stable.” No further details were shared.
A witness saw the man walking into a building on Amsterdam Avenue, a few blocks away.
A person of interest was taken into custody about an hour later.
A motive for the stabbings was not immediately clear. It was not known whether either victim knew the man or whether the stabbings were carried out at random.
