Please Welcome Demi Moore to the Humungous-Hat Club

There is no accessory that better announces “Hello! I am someone important!” than a really big hat. Carrie Bradshaw waged war against Manhattan’s men in too many giant fedoras to count; just last week, Jennifer Lopez asserted her dominance at Wimbledon with a supremely floppy straw hat that was four times the size of her actual head. And with great pleasure, we now welcome Demi Moore into the Humongous-Hat Club.

In a Wednesday Instagram post, The Substance star shared photos from a visit she and daughter Tallulah Willis took to the Schiaparelli showroom during Paris haute couture week earlier this month. Naturally, when taking a private shopping appointment with one of the finest couture houses in luxury fashion, you wear your wardrobe’s finest. For Moore, that meant a hat that can best be described as a cloud ripped from the sky, placed onto her head, and tilted at a demure 45 degrees.

Moore’s draped organza hat is by Polish designer Magda Butrym and measures 44 centimeters wide. (That’s 17.32 inches for those working with the imperial system.) The feat of millinery originally debuted on the Polish designer’s spring 2026 runway in collaboration with British hatmaker Noel Stewart and currently retails for a clean $4,800. The rest of Moore’s outfit — an ivory silk and lace-trimmed camisole paired with a bubble-hem midiskirt — also appeared in the same look of the brand’s runway show.

The fabulousness of such an oversize hat like the one Moore wore is multifold. There’s the unbotheredness of not caring whose view you obstruct or whose shoulders you brush up against. There’s the actual space that your accessory takes up — kind of like how a rich person takes up two parking spots to protect their sports car. But mostly, what’s impressive is the confidence it takes to commit to such a statement. For many of us who are wondering if we, too, could ever enter the Humungous-Hat Club, Moore is inspiring. Looking like a fashion design’s student croquis come to life, she tells us that on the other side of fear and insecurity is freedom. And that’s where all great style stems from.
