The westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 have reopened Friday morning following a serious collision involving two trucks that killed one driver.
The crash happened just before 6 p.m. Thursday, a short distance west of the Veterans Memorial Parkway interchange.
Police said the driver of one of the trucks was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where they were later pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased has not been released.
The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were not injured.
The department’s hazmat unit and officials from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks were called to the scene after 200 litres of diesel fuel spilled in the crash, fire officials said.
