Welcome to the world, Baby Waxahatchee!
Indie artist Katie Crutchfield, who goes by the stage name Waxahatchee, welcomed her first child with her partner, Kevin Morby on July 21 — which Morby announced on his own Substack. “I returned from my European tour just in time for our little beautiful baby to kick the door in two weeks ahead of schedule,” he wrote. He explained that “amazing” as the tour was, he was also anxious to leave “a very pregnant Katie at home.” Luckily, Crutchfield didn’t go into labor until Morby had returned home. “Like clockwork, I was home all but eight hours before Katie’s water broke,” he wrote. “I like to think that the little guy waited for me.”
Morby explained that he would have to cancel his performance at the Eaux Claires festival in Wisconsin this weekend, which is understandable under the circumstances. The announcement post concluded with a photo of him and a photo of Crutchfield each holding the new baby.
Crutchfield announced her pregnancy in April, while kicking off her new tour with MJ Lenderman. “This is a song about having a baby,” she said on stage. “This one’s going to hit a little different for me now.”
