Boeheim’s Army wins! Game brings up questions about need for new arena

For the first time ever, the annual TBT Basketball Tournament was held at the War Memorial in Downtown Syracuse.

Boeheim’s Army played against Seton’s Alumni team “Hall In” on Thursday. The final score was 81 to 76 with the SU Alumni team coming out on top.

In previous years, the games have been held at Onondaga Community College’s campus.

The game held at the War Memorial brought up questions from fans about whether a new arena is necessary or needed. This comes after Onondaga County has shared conversations where they grappled with the idea of a new arena.

Fans were excited about the change in scenery for the tournament.

Boeheim’s Army fan, Greg Szklany, said “It’s really exciting to bring it Downtown and bring more fans Downtown, too.”

Fans remarked that the arena has been in Syracuse for a long time. The War Memorial has been there for 74 years.

It’s also being seen as a ‘needs improvement’ type of place from attendees of the various events held at the space. Fans that attended the arena explained that improvements should be made. Those improvements ranged from comfortability of seating arrangements to technology upgrades.

It’s important to note that this is still just an idea the County is grappling with. Nothing has been confirmed.
