Whatever storybook ending may be in LeBron James’ future could miss one piece. His son, and former Los Angeles Lakers teammate, Bronny James. After the Lakers selected Bronny in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, he saw regular-season action in 27 games during his rookie season and 42 games in year No. 2. With LeBron opting to leave the Lakers in free agency, questions have loomed about whether the Lakers would ultimately trade Bronny to reunite with his dad, but if they do, it appears it’ll be a deal that has to convince Rob Pelinka and company to make the move.
Speaking recently with 97.1 The Fan, California Post Lakers reporter Khobi Price discussed Bronny’s future, stating that it’d take “something real” for the team to deal him.

“The Lakers are more than happy to keep Bronny James,” Price said. “…They drafted him, they developed him, they’re a fan of him. And he has a lot of people who like him within the building. It’s not going to be one of those situations where ‘oh, yeah, they’re just going to send Bronny to wherever LeBron goes.’ It would take something real for the Lakers to want to trade him.”
The comment itself is interesting, but shouldn’t be all that surprising. Head coach JJ Redick and the rest of the Lakers coaching staff have obviously worked with Bronny frequently over the past two years, so the fact that they’re more than happy to keep him and continue watching him develop makes plenty of sense. That may not be ideal for the potential free agency suitors for LeBron, but it sounds like if they want to bring Bronny over, it’s going to require a legitimate offer.
