Flight diverted to St. Louis Airport after potential bomb threat

ST. LOUIS — United Airlines Flight 380 made an emergency landing in St. Louis Sunday morning because of a potential bomb threat. One person is under arrest.
Flight 380 was headed from Dallas to Chicago, St. Louis Airport director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge said. It took off from Dallas shortly before 7 a.m. and landed in St. Louis at 8:40 a.m. Police dogs were used to clear the plane.
Passengers disembarked in Concourse B. No injuries were reported.
A United Airlines spokesperson said a pilot has the right to divert and land a plane based off of even a perceived threat.
According to our news partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the passenger in question said there was a bomb in his wife’s luggage. The St. Louis Bomb and Arson Squad responded to the airport to sweep the cabin, luggage, and cargo hold.
FOX 2 could not independently confirm the threat. The airport deferred all questions to United Airlines. The United spokesperson only made reference to a “potential security concern.”
The plane was eventually given the all-clear. Flight 380 departed St. Louis just before 1:50 p.m. and landed in Chicago at 2:50 p.m., approximately six hours behind schedule.
This is a developing story. FOX 2 News will have more information on-air and online as it becomes available.
