Thousands of people are set to turn Liverpool into a sea of rainbows this weekend as it celebrates Pride. The festivities officially begin tonight, Friday, July 24, with an opening party headlined by the Sugbabes.
Following this, some of those thousands were expected to head to The Albert Dock for its annual pop-up Pride event. However, this won’t be the case as the team behind the event admitted they “messed” up. The event was supposed to feature Sonic Yootha, WMNKND, and drag artist Jackie J from 12pm to 4pm.
Guests were told to expect a 360-degree central DJ booth with disco and queer anthems, plus a mobile party bike sound system. The entertainment was due to be supported with two pop-up bars in the courtyard by local spots including The One O’Clock Gun and Bar Glu, but because of a mistake made, the event has been cancelled.
Posting the news online, The Albert Dock team said: “We’re gutted to tell you all, we messed up. We didn’t put the licence in for the sale of alcohol in Anchor Courtyard in time.
“Which gave us no option but to cancel the pop up event on Saturday.We did explore other spaces on the estate but none worked for all parties.

“Hope you have a great Pride on Saturday and sorry to have disappointed those looking forward to it.”
This year’s event marks a new chapter for Pride as two of the city region’s leading LGBTQ+ organisations join forces to deliver what they describe as a “bold, inclusive and community-first” festival.
Following a period of extensive community engagement in 2025, Sahir and LCR Pride Foundation announced a formal partnership to organise the event under the banner of Liverpool’s Pride.
The collaboration represents a renewed commitment from both organisations to placing LGBTQ+ communities across the Liverpool City Region at the heart of Pride, ensuring the festival continues to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and equality.
