Who is Yash Thakur? Vidarbha seamer earns India debut in 2nd T20 match vs Zimbabwe

Team India welcomed its newest addition to the T20 unit as Yash Thakur was named to the Men in Blue’s squad for the second T20 international match against Zimbabwe on Saturday at the Harare Sports Club.

The Shreyas Iyer-led Indian cricket team face Zimbabwe in the second match of the ongoing T20 series. The visitors have sealed a 1-0 lead in the series after winning the first match by seven wickets (with 40 balls to spare).

Who is Yash Thakur?

Born in Kolkata on December 28, 1998, Thakur is a right-arm medium-fast bowler who became the latest T20 international debutant for the Indian cricket team. The seamer represents Vidarbha in the domestic circuit and has made major strides in all formats.

The right-arm seamer has also featured for Central Zone and India Under-19s as well.

Thakur has appeared in 74 T20 matches, securing 110 wickets at an average of 18.75 and an economy of 8.17. His best bowling numbers are 5/16.

Thakur also appeared in the Indian Premier League, representing the Lucknow Super Giants and the IPL 2025 runner-ups, the Punjab Kings, picking up 27 wickets.

The Indian seamer recently represented India A in the tri-series in Sri Lanka, claiming five wickets across three matches.

Thakur replaces another debutant in playing XI vs ZIM

Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to field first against India in the second T20 match at Harare. India captain Shreyas Iyer revealed at the toss that Yash Thakur would make his debut for the Men in Blue and replaced Ashok Sharma in the playing XI.

Ashok made his debut in the series-opening T20 match but went wicketless in the competition.
