GASTONIA, N.C. (WBTV) – A Gaston County woman bought a scratch-off lottery ticket for the first time and won $100,000 this week.
“I didn’t think I was looking at it right,” Kahla Jeffries told lottery officials. Jeffries won one of 80 $100,000 top prizes — 58 were left as of this writing.
The scratch-off was bought at Wills Food Store on Hickey Grove Road in Gastonia in July.

Jeffries had stopped for gas and decided to buy a scratch-off for the first time ever. She walked away with the $100,000 top prize.
Jeffries was awarded $71,018 after state and federal tax withholdings on Friday, July 24. She said she planned to used her winnings to buy a new car and save for school.
A North Carolina Education Lottery spokesperson said that Gaston County received $14.2 million in education program support from lottery funds in 2025.
