Trump’s 2024 winning issue just flipped against him, new poll shows: ‘Complete switcheroo’

CNN senior data analyst Harry Enten has bad news for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

On Friday, Enten referred to a Fox News poll to show that Democrats currently hold a 10-point lead over Republicans on the issue of inflation. This marks a change from October 2024, when Trump held a 6-point edge on the same question.

“This is a huge switcheroo,” CNN anchor Sara Sidner said.

That’s a 16-point swing, one of the largest shifts Fox News polling has recorded on the issue, according to Enten.

“The reason that Donald Trump won a second term in 2024 was because of inflation,” Enten told Sidner.

Enten pointed to rising gas prices as a factor pushing inflation concerns higher and said the issue remains the top concern for American voters.

He also noted that the issue widely blamed for former President Joe Biden’s declining approval rating and Kamala Harris’ 2024 loss may now work against the party in power.

The analyst warned it would be hard for the GOP to hold the House of Representatives if Democrats maintain their advantage on the issue.

He was less certain about the outlook for the Senate.

This isn’t the only bad polling news Republicans have gotten lately.

On Thursday, an Emerson poll showed that Democrats hold an 11-point advantage over Republicans on the generic congressional ballot, with 53% backing Democrats compared to 42% supporting Republicans.

Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said women are driving the Democrats’ edge. Women back Democratic candidates by a 27-point margin, Kimball said, while men are “more split.”
