Police confirm why armed officers attended town centre

Officers were made aware of reports of a group of youths being in possession of weapons at round 5.30 pm yesterday evening, July 24, around Newlands Walk.

Armed police then attended the scene and a Section 34 Dispersal Order was put in place in the town centre.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “Following an extensive search of the area and a number of individuals being searched, no weapons were found.

 “No arrests have been made, and enquiries are ongoing into this, anyone with information should contact the force via our website or call 101, quoting investigation reference 43260380770.”
