CARLISLE, N.Y. (WNYT) – Police are investigating alleged animal cruelty after more than 70 animals were removed from a property in Carlisle this weekend.

On July 24, the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report concerning the welfare of animals at a residence in Carlisle. Police say deputies found multiple puppies suffering from severe medical conditions. According to police, three critically ill puppies were taken to Upstate Veterinary Specialties in Latham for emergency treatment.
On July 25, deputies returned to the residence with representatives from multiple animal shelters and the Town of Carlisle Dog Control to continue investigating. Police say additional puppies were found in critical condition before obtaining a search warrant for the property.
Police say the search resulted in multiple additional animals requiring medical attention. According to officials, 78 animals were removed from the property in total, including 17 surrendered puppies, 12 seized dogs, nine seized cats, 31 seized birds, five seized chickens and four seized horses.

The Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains active and no further information is available.
