ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (First Alert 4) – The Eureka Fire Protection District said Sunday multiple crews were responding to a coal train derailment.
The department told First Alert 4 that 26 cars on a 135-car-long Union Pacific coal train derailed near Lewis Street, close to the Crescent Farms Golf Club.
Chief Scott Barthelmass said there were no injuries from the derailment, and no hazardous materials were in any of the cars. But both tracks along that stretch have been compromised.
Barthelmass also said one of the derailed cars hit the Lewis Road bridge. Crews from St. Louis County evaluated the bridge for damage and told the First Alert 4 crew on scene the bridge would be closed due to concerns over its structural integrity.
