People have been urged to stay away from the scene of a large field fire affecting 40 acres (16ha) of crops.
Firefighters were called to the blaze in Crows Lane, Woodham Ferrers – north of South Woodham Ferrers – shortly before 15:20 BST.
Ten crews are tackling the flames, which have been creating large plumes of smoke in the area, and are supporting the field’s farmer.
“Please avoid the area while firefighters bring the incident to a safe conclusion,” an Essex County Fire & Rescue Service spokesman said.
