The blaze is currently tearing through Dunwich Heath, near the Coastguard Cottages and is spreading south-west towards St James’ Church, off Westleton Road, with smoke visible from as far as Leiston.
Fourteen fire appliances are currently in attendance but hot and windy conditions are creating significant challenges for crews and contributing to fire spread.
Members of the public are advised to avoid the area and keep roads clear for emergency vehicles.
A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue is also urging residents affected by smoke to keep windows and doors closed where possible.
