Theme park visitors in Japan need to buckle up for higher ticket prices. Operators are about to charge more for admission to offset rising salaries and other costs.
Private research firm Teikoku Databank surveyed 191 leisure facilities nationwide, including theme parks. Twenty-six percent say they plan to hike the cost of entry this year.
Oriental Land, operator of Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, sets admission prices according to expected crowd levels and seasonal demand.
Prices are listed on its website up to three months ahead. For Tokyo Disneyland, the top-tier ticket is a 1-Day Passport for adults. The rate for October will rise to more than 12,000 yen, or about 73 dollars.
That’s up about 1,000 yen, or 6 dollars, from the current level, and is the first hike in three years.
Sanrio Puroland, another popular theme park, will raise the cost of admission from August 1. The price of its most expensive ticket is going up 1,000 yen, meaning an adult encounter with Sanrio characters will now cost 6,900 yen, or over 40 dollars.
