Macklin Celebrini will be with the San Jose Sharks for a long time.
Celebrini and the Sharks have agreed to a five-year, $94 million extension.
Celebrini, at the moment, is set to be the highest-paid player in the NHL when that $18.8 million AAV kicks in during the 2027-28 season. Celebrini’s AAV is just ahead of Leo Carlsson’s current $18 million AAV.

This deal takes up one of Celebrini’s UFA seasons. Celebrini will be UFA, 26 years old, when this contract expires in 2032.
“I couldn’t be happier to sign an extension today,” Celebrini said in a San Jose Sharks’ team press release. “The faith and support that Mr. Plattner, Mike Grier and the entire staff have shown me throughout the past two seasons is proof that we are building something special here. My teammates and I are ready to take another step toward the ultimate goal of bringing a Stanley Cup to this city and its incredible fans. I can’t wait to get going.”
Celebrini, 20, just had a sophomore season to remember: With 115 points, he finished fourth in the Hart Trophy voting, was a Ted Lindsay Award finalist, and broke Joe Thornton’s franchise record for single-season points (114 points set in 2006-07). The Canadian was also selected to the post-tournament Olympics All-Star team and top forward of the 2026 World Championships.
“In just two seasons as a teenager in the National Hockey League and on the International stage, Macklin has established himself as one of the premier players in the world,” San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier said. “We are extremely excited to have him secured and committed as the centerpiece of a core of talented players in San Jose.”
Grier and Celebrini’s agent Pat Brisson both credited each other in the process.
“As we continue our goal of building a team capable of annually competing for the Stanley Cup, we want to thank Macklin and his representatives for a respectful negotiation process, and acknowledge the flexibility they have provided to the team in how we allocate future dollars towards the team being constructed around Macklin,” Grier said.
Celebrini was eligible to make as much as $20.8 million AAV right now, 20 percent of 2026-27’s $104 million salary cap.
