Two people have been taken to hospital, with one suffering potentially life-changing injuries, after a three-vehicle crash on the A303 in Somerset this afternoon (Thursday, July 30).
Emergency services were called to the scene near Chard around 1.20pm, where two people were rushed to hospital.
The families of both people taken to hospital have been made aware and are being kept updated by police.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said crews were at the scene and suggested a person was trapped as a result of the crash.
The A303 is currently closed in both directions between Buckland St Mary and the Howley turn-off. Drivers have been asked to avoid the area and expect delays following the crash.

A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury through driving without due care and attention.
At the time of reporting, he remains in police custody.
Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or who has dashcam footage to contact the force.
In a statement, it said: “We were called at around 1.20pm to the A303 north of Chard today (Thursday 30 July) following reports of a three-vehicle collision.
“If you were in the area and witnessed anything which could aid our enquiries, please call 101 and quote reference 5226213546.”
