Inverness athlete Megan Keith claims bronze medal at Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Megan Keith claimed a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games when she finished in third place in the 5000 metres final in Glasgow tonight.

The Inverness Harriers athlete won her first medal at the competition when she finished in a time of 14 minutes 49.10 seconds.

The race was won by Rose Davies from Australia in 14:44.53 with fellow Australian Jessica Hull second in 14:45.01.

Keith was leading the race with around 200 metres to go before she was overtaken by the Australian duo. But she managed to hold off the challenge of Esther Chebet of Uganda who finished in fourth in 14:50.70.

Keith also competed in the 10,000 metres final on Monday night when she finished in ninth place.

She achieved a season’s best with a time of 32 minutes 22.11 seconds.

The race was also won by Davies of Australia in a time 31:39.32. Diana Wanza of Kenya finished in second place in 31:50.13 with Florence Niyonkuru of Rwanda third in 31:55.47.

Keith is one of a number of north athletes who are competing in the Commonwealth Games who can all be viewed here.

There has been Highland and Moray success at the Commonwealth Games.

Ullapool athlete Stephen Mackenzie won bronze in the long jump on Wednesday night.

Forres cyclist Lauren Bell also claimed bronze for Scotland in the women’s team pursuit.

The Commonwealth Games conclude on Sunday.
