Inter have renewed their pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones.

The Athletic reported on June 22 that Liverpool had rejected a bid worth around €25million (£21.7m; $28.7m) from Inter and that they were seeking around €40m in any sale of the 25-year-old.

Inter have since contacted Liverpool via intermediaries, who indicated the Serie A champions are willing to pay €35m for Jones — which still falls short of what Liverpool believe the midfielder to be worth — according to sources briefed on discussions, speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships.

Jones has just one year left on his contract at Anfield, with senior figures at the club insisting that they would rather lose Jones for free in 2027 rather than sanction his exit for a price worth lower than their valuation. Liverpool referred Inter to the January deal that saw Conor Gallagher join Tottenham Hotspur from Atletico Madrid, with the north London club paying €40m.

There are no active talks over a new contract for Jones, though Liverpool would be keen to explore a new deal if the gap in expectations between the two sides can be bridged.

Inter attempted to sign Jones in the January window, making a proposal of a loan deal with an option to buy, which was rejected by Liverpool.

Since making his first team debut for the club as a 17-year-old in January 2019, Jones has made 228 appearances for the club, scoring 22 goals and recording 25 assists. He has won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup twice.

Jones was born in Liverpool and is a product of the team’s Kirkby academy.
