The Kansas City Chiefs were back on the practice field for the latest session of training camp on Friday and rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen stood out once again.
Allen has routinely been a standout since training camp began, but he made his most impressive catch on Friday.

Thanks to video from content creator Farzin Vousoughian, we were able to get a look at Allen pulling in a sick one-handed catch from quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes fired a bullet over the middle of the field, but the pass was a bit high.
That was no problem for Allen, though, who pulled it in with one hand anyway.

Later on in practice, Allen also reeled in a nice sideline grab against tight coverage on another pass from Mahomes that showed his impressive hands.
Allen making the Chiefs’ roster was never a question, but the fifth-round pick is quickly making a case he deserves a significant role.

The Kansas City Chiefs have no shortage of question marks in their wide receivers room, so the door is wide open for Cyrus Allen to earn a starting job, especially if he can keep on making plays like he did on Friday.
One huge hurdle Allen has already jumped is earning the trust of Patrick Mahomes, who has taken a liking to the rookie already.

“Cyrus had a good day today with him,” head coach Andy Reid said on Wednesday, when the rookie was also a standout at practice. “I think Pat’s got some trust there. We’ve got a long way to go, but we’ve just got to keep growing.”
The Chiefs have a crowded situation at wide receiver, but the path to significant targets is anything but blocked.

Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy are locked-in atop the depth chart for now, but Worthy is at least somewhat vulnerable after a disappointing season in 2025.
Tyquan Thornton and Jalen Royals are competing against Allen for the No. 3 spot, but the jury is still very much out on Royals, who has struggled with drops in camp, and we saw Thornton fall off big time in 2025 after a strong start.

Allen specializes in beating man coverage and is capable of taking the top off the defense with his speed, so he could be a real weapon for the Chiefs’ offense.
If Allen can keep stacking positive days, we could very well see him as one of the starting wideouts in three-receivers sets come Week 1.
