A former Grande Prairie Air Cadet is set to perform high above his hometown with the Canadian Forces Snow Birds.
Captain Iain Muir, was a former Air Cadet at the 577 Grande Prairie Air Cadets, and is now a Canadian Forces Snow Bird.
Muir says the dream to be on the Snow Birds didn’t develop right away.
“I never wanted to be an Air Force pilot right from the start, that dream developed as I was in cadets.”
Muir will be Snow Bird #7 when they come to Grande Prairie for the air show in August. Muir says during the Snow Birds approximate 30 minute performance, some of the maneuvers still gets his heart going, including the ‘Canada Burst’ at the end of the show.
“The one that gets my heart going is the line of rest combo, I love it.”
“We’ve got larger formations where all nine aircrafts are together, and then we’ve got an integrated section in the middle where the solos do some very close passes.”
Muir says that returning to Grande Prairie, where he spent many of his years, will be a bit different compared to any other show.
“Getting to come back, where I kind of owe my start as a pilot, it will be quite meaningful.”
“I’m quite excited. I owe my whole military career to cadets.”
Muir added that his advice to any kids who may want to be a Snow Bird themselves one day, to give it a shot.
“If you’re day dreaming about something, give it a shot.”
The Grande Prairie Regional Air Show will be taking place August 1 and 2, with this being one of the last stops for the current Snow Bird fleet, until they are grounded.
