Benjamin Sesko targeted for transfer as Man United brace for potential problem

Manchester United could be forced to look for centre-forward reinforcement, as Benjamin Sesko has been linked with the doors of Old Trafford this summer

Bayern Munich are reportedly weighing up a move for Benjamin Sesko, in what could be a catastrophic issue for Manchester United. The Slovenian striker’s presence at Old Trafford has been felt since his £74m arrival from RB Leipzig last summer.

Sesko managed 11 Premier League goals from 30 appearances last season and was instrumental to the Reds’ third-place finish in the English top flight. And while that tally is significantly short of the tallies that some of the league’s top scorers managed over the same period, it’s a marked improvement on the paltry combined total of seven that Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee coughed up in 2024/25.

With his best years still thought to be ahead of him at just 23, United would be wise to retain Sesko for at least another season to see how he further develops – albeit, alongside a more proven goalscorer as they prepare for Champions League football on top of their domestic duties.

However, an interest from Bayern could complicate matters substantially. The Bavarians were thought to have held an interest in Sesko while he was still plying his trade with Leipzig, only to be beaten to the punch by United.

But with Harry Kane entering the twilight years of his career, the Bundesliga powerhouses could opt to start to plan for the future. Cfbayerninsider claim that Sesko is still an interest to Munich, and that they could opt to revisit their pursuit as both a successor to Kane and a versatile forward who can operate in a two-striker system.

That would be a major blow to United, who would have to scurry to find an apt replacement for Sesko throughout August considering they would be left shy of attacking options.

While Bryan Mbeumo is capable of playing through the middle, his best position is arguably on the right-hand side. And while Mateus Cunha can also operate as an out and out striker, he has also settled into playing as an attacking midfielder.

That leaves just Zirkzee, who has struggled to make a mark at Old Trafford since his arrival from Bologna two years ago, and is seemingly closing in on his own exit from the Theatre of Dreams as a result.

United will also arguably be looking for additions to their own strike force as a result of the strain competing in Europe next season will have on the first-team.

While the likes of Liam Delap and Igor Thiago have been floated at possible targets, it is Club Brugge’s Nicolo Tresoldi who has recently emerged as a potential summer signing.

United will know the task at hand if they are serious in their pursuit, however, with the Belgian Pro League side making it clear that the 21-year-old is not for sale this summer under any circumstances – while Tresoldi has also reaffirmed his commitment to the club.
