Shawn Johnson gave an update on her toddler son’s recent procedure.

On Thursday, July 30, the Olympic gymnast, 34, shared an update on Instagram Stories about her son, Barrett “Bear,” 2, who just recently had his second set of tubes and his adenoids removed. Johnson said that the surgery went “well,” adding it was “definitely needed.”

The loving mom of three also shared her hopes that her son begins to feel better as his journey coming out of the anesthesia has been “pretty rough.” She explained, “When kids come in out of anesthesia, it’s pretty rough. This was by far the roughest… He’s just kind of our fighter, and always has been. And he really fought that anesthesia. I mean, it was rough for a while.”

“But now I feel like he’s feeling better,” Johnson continued. “We’ve been home for probably five hours and all of a sudden it’s like there’s been a switch flipped. He’s still like groggy; however, he is now all of a sudden so hungry, demanding so much food. They were kind of worried at the outpatient because he like was refusing water, juice, popsicles, everything. They’re like, make sure you call us if that continues.”

Over her first video, Johnson shared a text update listing all the foods her son requested since he started eating again. “Updates because it’s been a while and I’ve left you all hanging. First UPDATE Bear had his second set of tubes put in today and his adenoids removed. Surgery went great,” she wrote. “It was a rough wake up from anesthesia, but we are back home.”

“He’s slowly making progress and really funny just now demanding so much food,” Johnson added. “I’m talking yogurt, pizza, popsicles, cherries, cantaloupe, avocado he’s a bottomless pit right now.”

In addition to Barrett, Johnson shares daughter Drew Hazel, 6, and son Jett James, 4, with husband Andrew East, 34.

The couple, who have been married since 2016, recently shared with PEOPLE in an interview published on June 25 that they don’t plan on having more kids. “Our family, I think, feels very complete,” Johnson said, and her husband agreed.

“I love it so much,” the former NFL player said of being a dad. “Having little kids is so fun, but I think we’re done.”

During an interview with E! News earlier in the month, Johnson and East chatted about life at home with their three little ones, and shared which kid is taking on a daredevil personality. Johnson revealed that Jett has always been very into “anything with two wheels.”

“When our kids are young, Andrew will pull up YouTube clips. We’ll look at every sport, we’ll look at every hobby, we’ll look at piano and crafts and baking and cooking and science experiments, just to see if something catches our kids’ interest,” explained Johnson. “And from the time our 4-year-old was, like, 1, anything with two wheels lit him up.”

At the moment, Jett is into motorcycles, East said. “I’ll see him walking around the yard with his eyes closed and his hands out. I’m like, ‘Buddy, what are you doing?’ He’s like, ‘I’m dreaming about riding motorcycles, dad,’ ” he told the outlet.

Jett’s dreams have led to a few injuries, however, which the couple says they’re used to at this point. “The ER now comes to our house,” Johnson said with a laugh. “When you start stitching up faces in your living room, I think it shows that this might be, not a problem, but we’re a little too comfortable with it.”
