Road closures, delays expected for Victoria Snowbirds show

The Victoria Police Department is expecting large crowds, significant traffic delays and road closures for the upcoming Snowbirds airshow on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
According to VicPD, the annual event attracts up to 30,000 spectators, and traffic delays are expected before and after the show that occurs along the Dallas Road waterfront.
That day, parking restrictions on Dallas Road begin at noon, and starting at 3 p.m., Dallas Road between Douglas Street and Memorial Crescent; Cook Street between May Street and Dallas Road; Douglas Street between Simcoe Street and Dallas Road; and Memorial Crescent between Fairfield Street and Dallas Road will be closed until around 6 p.m.
“Residents in the James Bay and Fairfield neighbourhoods should expect delays entering and leaving the area during peak event times,” noted a release from VicPD.
Drivers are encouraged to arrive early, allow extra travel time, and consider walking, cycling, or taking transit when possible. After the show, attendees are asked to be patient as limited exit routes will likely lead to delays.
VicPD officers will be on site throughout the event to help manage traffic, maintain public safety, and ensure emergency vehicle access. As part of their safety plan, VicPD will also use a drone to monitor crowds and traffic conditions.
Anyone who becomes separated from family or friends, or anyone who finds someone who needs assistance, is asked to notify a VicPD officer or visit one of the designated meeting points at Douglas Street and Dallas Road, Cook Street and Dallas Road, Moss Street and Dallas Road, or Memorial Crescent and Dallas Road.
The 55th anniversary show will likely be the last performance by the Snowbirds on Vancouver Island before the aging CL-41 Tutor jets are retired as Ottawa looks to replace them by the early 2030s.
