Small wildfire under control

West Kelowna area wildfire gets under control July 26, 2026.
UPDATE: 10 p.m.
The 0.1 hectare wildfire that is burning in the West Kelowna area is now considered under control by BC Wildfire Service.
BCWS changed the status of the spot fire to under control late Sunday evening, meaning it is not projected to spread beyond the current perimeter.
Ground and aerial resources were tackling the Rank 1 blaze, which last saw a smouldering ground fire with minimal open flame and a slow rate of spread.
The suspected cause is believed to be lightning.

BCWS changed the status of the spot fire to held on Sunday evening, meaning they don’t expect it to spread beyond the current perimeter, control line or boundary.
There are 10 firefighting personnel and helicopters tackling the blaze.
The suspected cause is believed to be lightning.

BC Wildfire Service crews are at the scene of a spot-sized fire burning out of control near West Kelowna on Sunday afternoon.
BCWS said two ground crews and a response officer are at the scene of the fire in the Jack Creek area.
Two helicopters have been assigned to bucket the wildfire as well.
The fire is currently showing Rank 1 fire behaviour, meaning a smouldering ground fire.
The fire was discovered Sunday afternoon and is suspected to have been caused by lightning, according to BCWS.
