Uros Medic stuns UFC fans with 30-second main event knockout in
Belgrade
The first-ever
Ultimate Fighting Championship card in Serbia set the record
for the most first-round finishes (10) in promotional history and
saw the local fighters piling up five victories.
Thirty seconds, that’s how long it took for local hero Uros Medic
(13-3, 7-3 UFC) to secure a victory against Daniel
Rodriguez (20-5, 10-4 UFC) in the
UFC Belgrade main event. Medic took the center of the cage
before trading low kicks with fellow
Dana White’s Contender Series alum Rodriguez. After a front
kick that served to take his opponent’s measure, “The Doctor”
landed a counter left hook as the American pressed forward, then
followed up with a two-piece combination and a knee that
immediately dropped “D-Rod.” Once on the canvas, the Serbian fired
a soccer kick to the body and a few more punches. With the veteran
no longer defending himself intelligently, referee Jason Herzog
waved it off.
In front of a chanting arena, Medic asked for a clash with former
170-pound titleholder Leon
Edwards in the post-fight interview, among others.

Stirling (11-0, 6-0 UFC) annihilated former divisional kingpin
Jan
Blachowicz (29-12-2, 12-9-2 UFC) in the opening frame. A
short-notice replacement for Bogdan
Guskov, Stirling sent his opponent careening across the cage
with a big right hand. Smelling blood, Stirling opened Blachowicz
up with sharp elbows and unloaded with leather. Winless in more
than four years, 43-year-old Blachowicz could offer only timid
defense before referee Marc Goddard
stepped in at the 2:56 mark of Round 1. In victory, Stirling scored
the seventh stoppage of his career and looked ready to take on the
upper part of the light heavyweight rankings.
Earlier, Aleksandar
Rakic (15-6, 7-5 UFC) and Marcin
Tybura (27-12, 14-11 UFC) went the distance in their
heavyweight tilt. It was his first foray into the heavyweight
division and the move paid off. Rakic looked lighter on his feet
and outsmarted “Tybur” on several occasions, controlling all three
rounds but never pushing for the finish. When the dust settled,
“Rocket” collected three 30-27 scorecards from the judges and
snapped a four-bout skid.
In a 185-pound attraction, Robert
Valentin (12-6, 1 NC; 2-3 UFC) forced Dusko
Todorovic (13-7, 4-7 UFC) to tap to a guillotine choke in the
opening scrap. “Robzilla” hunted a standing guillotine from the
opening bell, but Todorovic defended well enough to scramble back
to his feet. The end came when “Thunder” left his neck exposed,
allowing Valentin to lock up a guillotine and drag the fight back
to the mat. The squeeze was deep enough that
Todorovic had no choice but to tap at 4:14 of Round
1.
Gilbert
Urbina (8-4, 2-3 UFC) crushed Vlastislav
Cepo (14-4, 0-1 UFC) with punches in the first round of his
185-pound debut. Both men came out swinging in search of an early
finish, but Urbina was the sharper of the two, timing a clean shot
that put “El Chapo” on the canvas. From there, the 30-year-old
poured down punches and elbows. With Cepo no longer
intelligently defending himself, referee Marc Goddard
stepped in just 61 seconds into the fight.
In the 155-pound main card opener, Noah Gugnon
(10-2, 1-0 UFC) silenced the home crowd with a win over Milos
Janicic (19-4, 0-1 UFC). Gugnon landed a leg kick that badly
compromised Janicic’s lead leg early, forcing “Cobra” to retreat to
his back. The Frenchman followed him down,
took his back with ease, and locked in a rear-naked
choke. The official end came just 81 seconds out of
the gate.
In the featured fight of the preliminary card, former
Rizin Fighting Federation lightweight grand prix winner
Tofiq
Musayev (24-6, 2-1 UFC) overcame Ludovit
Klein (24-6-1, 8-4-1 UFC) in an entertaining scrap. The
36-year-old appeared to have the edge throughout, getting the
better of the exchanges in both volume and quality. In the final
minute of the second stanza, the Azerbaijani fighter dropped Klein
with a three-piece combination against the fence, then poured on
ground-and-pound until referee Kerry Hatley stepped in at the 4:07
mark of Round 2. In the post-fight interview, the Orion Fight Club
fighter called for a ranked opponent next.

with punches at 1:49 of the opening frame of their
170-pound clash; Borislav
