Severance Season 3 is officially filming, and the first image is a message to fans

Ben Stiller confirmed Severance Season 3 has begun filming with a July 27 image quoting Lumon founder Kier Eagan, “To return to work is to return home,” a post Apple TV reshared with the caption “Please frolic in moderation.” The deliberately pixelated, security-camera-style photo shows Mark S. and Helly R. running through Lumon’s corridors, echoing the Season 2 finale where Mark chose to stay with Helly instead of reuniting with Gemma.
Ben Stiller didn’t need a press release to send Lumon’s employees back into panic mode. On July 27, he posted a grainy, red-tinted photo that looks straight out of a security feed, with Mark and Helly sprinting through those familiar fluorescent corridors. Apple TV’s official account reposted it within hours, adding only “Please frolic in moderation,” which tells you everything about the tone this show intends to keep. The picture lands as a direct callback to that gut-punch Season 2 finale, when Mark stayed behind with Helly rather than running to Gemma. Season 3 has officially started shooting, and this first look is less an announcement than a taunt.
Ben Stiller confirms filming is underway
On July 27, 2026, Ben Stiller, executive producer of Severance, posted a cryptic image on X alongside a quote from Lumon founder Kier Eagan: “To return to work is to return home.” The post confirmed that season 3 has begun filming, a milestone Production Weekly reports place on that same day. The official Apple TV account quickly reposted the photo with its own wink to fans: “Please frolic in moderation.”
A security-camera image with a familiar echo
The image itself is deliberately degraded, red-tinged and pixelated like surveillance footage from inside Lumon Industries. It shows Adam Scott as Mark S. and Britt Lower as Helly R. sprinting through the company’s white corridors, and it appears to be a new angle on the season 2 finale. In that closing sequence, Mark helped his wife Gemma escape but chose to stay inside Lumon with Helly rather than walk out to reunite with her. The new photo picks up exactly where that cliffhanger left viewers hanging.
A long wait, and a longer one ahead
Patience has become part of the Severance experience. Season 1 wrapped on April 8, 2022, and season 2 did not premiere until January 16, 2025, a gap of 1,014 days between seasons. Apple has yet to announce a premiere date for season 3, and industry observers estimate the show won’t return before fall 2027 at the earliest, given typical shooting and post-production schedules. Adam Scott had already hinted in March 2026 that cameras would roll “very, very soon,” while promising “exciting new characters.”
Inside Lumon’s return
Created by Dan Erickson, the series follows Mark Scout, a Lumon employee who undergoes a procedure severing his work memories from his personal ones. That premise powered two acclaimed seasons on Apple TV+, and Stiller has made no secret of his attachment to the project. “Making Severance has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of,” he said.
One production question still hovers over the new season. According to early reports, filmmaker Kogonada is expected to direct much of season 3 as producing director, with Stiller staying on as executive producer rather than helming the bulk of the episodes himself, though Apple has not officially confirmed that arrangement.
