The Mavericks and forward Naji Marshall have finalized a multiyear contract extension, the team announced in a press release.
“Naji has earned this opportunity through the way he approaches the game every day,” said Mavericks president Masai Ujiri. “He is a competitive player who impacts winning in a variety of ways. His versatility, toughness and willingness to embrace every challenge make him an important part of what we’re building.”
According to Shams Charania of ESPN (Twitter link), Marshall received a three-year, $52.2MM deal to remain in Dallas. The extension is fully guaranteed, Charania reports.
Marshall is coming off a career-best season in which he averaged 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals in 74 games, including 47 starts (29.5 minutes per game). The former Xavier standout, who went undrafted in 2020, will earn $9.4MM in 2026/27 before his three-year extension kicks in during the ’27/28 league year.
Marshall spent his first four NBA seasons with New Orleans prior to signing a three-year, $27MM contract with Dallas as a free agent in the 2024 offseason. He’ll nearly double that contract on his new deal.
Although Marshall has only converted 30.0% of his career three-point attempts on low volume, he has become one of the best finishing wings in the league because he has developed an outstanding floater, which he utilizes in a variety of ways. The rugged small forward has converted 59.8% of his 7.7 two-point tries per game in his two years with the Mavericks.
Marshall is also a solid rebounder, complementary play-maker and versatile defender at 6’6″ and 220 pounds. The Mavs have “consistently resisted trade interest” in the 28-year-old, tweets Marc Stein of The Stein Line, and have now locked him in to a long-term deal.
