EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -Amazon said Thursday, July 30 it will return a portion of tariff charges to consumers after many of President Trump’s tariffs were struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The e-commerce giant said it has received approximately $600 million in tariff refunds and plans to pass some of that money back to customers.
Amazon among few companies to commit to consumer refunds
While companies such as Walmart, Target and Costco have applied for tariff refunds, Amazon is one of only a few corporations to make a public commitment to return those charges to consumers.
The Supreme Court ruled in February that many of Trump’s enacted tariffs were illegal, but the court did not specify a refund process.
Trump said earlier this year he would be “honored” if Amazon and other businesses did not seek refunds.
Eligible customers to receive automatic refunds
Amazon said it has been able to trace some of the import charges passed on to consumers. Eligible customers will be contacted and automatically issued refunds.
