FRANKFORT, Ky. (WFIE) – Gov. Andy Beshear responded to criticism from Republican leaders after he skipped the annual Fancy Farm picnic to attend his son’s baseball game.
U.S. Sen. Rand Paul and U.S. Rep. Andy Barr both criticized the Democratic governor at the event.
Barr is running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Mitch McConnell.
Paul’s remarks
Paul noted Beshear’s absence and criticized his record in office.
“If Andy Beshear is remembered, it will be for being neutered at every turn by the Republican legislature,” Paul said.
Beshear apologized for missing the event and responded on X.
“Rand Paul apparently said I’d been ‘neutered’ by my legislature. Rich coming from a guy who’s never had a pair of balls and if he did, they’d be held by Trump,” Beshear said.
Barr’s remarks
Barr joked about the governor after natural disasters and referenced his dad.
“No matter what happens in Kentucky, within two minutes, he can find a podium and his navy blue emergency management jacket. You know he loves that jacket so much he has pajamas just like it,” Barr said.
Beshear responded to Barr in a separate post on X.
“I’m told Andy Barr also spoke. We aren’t the same. Yes, same first name, hometown and high school, but I don’t run racist ads. Yes, Steve’s my dad, but Trump’s his daddy,” Beshear said.

The governor responded to criticism over missing the picnic for his son’s baseball game.
“Funny how the Republicans are all mad I missed one political event to watch my son play baseball. But no outrage that Mitch McConnell has been nowhere to be seen for 50 days.”
