SummerSlam is in the books, Raw is tonight, let’s get after another week.
Lead rumor: Brock Lesnar’s status
Brock Lesnar did the job for Oba Femi in the main event of SummerSlam night one this past weekend in Minneapolis. PW Insider notes the decision to move them to the main event came during the past week, with the belief that it made more sense to close the show than open it, which it was initially scheduled to do. Lesnar did not push for the change but rather it was Paul Levesque who made the call.
Meanwhile, WrestleVotes claims they made it a Hell in a Cell match despite having no real plans to use the cage to both appease ESPN and Lesnar, who they claim said he wanted to do one more but didn’t want to touch the cage.
Last but not least on Lesnar: he called himself the past after the match, but Fightful Select notes that people within WWE expect him to work another match, though there are no plans in place for it at this time.
Other rumors floating around
- Although he’s back as SmackDown General Manager after SummerSlam, Fightful Select says people in WWE believe Nick Aldis will wrestle for WWE again.
- According to Fightful, there were “a number of wrestlers internally who wanted nothing to do with Ryan Garcia on Raw.”
- Regarding the Rougeau tribute flap from AEW Redemption, Jacques posted his rejected video online (check it out here). On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that while it would have been rejected for its use of AI, unlicensed music, and overall length, the absolute deal breaker was including WWE-owned footage of Jacques pinning Hulk Hogan at Montreal’s Bell Centre on a WCW show. Meltzer maintained Jacques was so upset “even building security was aware of it”, but agreed “everything’s fine now.”
