  • Based on 20,008 deliveries, the main Nio brand generated about 8.7 billion yuan in revenue for the month.
  • The ES8 delivered 10,286 units in July, accounting for 51.41 percent of the main Nio brand’s deliveries.

The main Nio brand of Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) had an average transaction price of 434,600 yuan ($64,010) in July, extending its pricing power in China’s premium market.

Ma Lin, the company’s vice president of branding and communications, disclosed the figure in a Weibo post on Monday. He credited it to continued strong sales of the ES8 and ES9, two premium SUV (sport utility vehicle) models.

The figure is slightly below June’s 443,000 yuan, but still far above the overall level of China’s passenger vehicle market. In China, models with starting prices above 300,000 yuan are considered premium.

The main Nio brand delivered 20,008 vehicles in July, up 57.85 percent year-on-year, although down 8.67 percent from June.

Based on the average transaction price, the Nio brand generated about 8.7 billion yuan in revenue in July.

The ES8 was the main driver. The large SUV delivered 10,286 units in July, accounting for 51.41 percent of the main brand’s deliveries.

The five-seat version of the ES8 was launched on July 9 and began deliveries the next day, helping the model return to above 10,000 units a month.

The five-seat version starts at 382,800 yuan with a battery pack included, 5.9 percent lower than the three-row versions.

Another pillar is the ES9. The executive flagship was launched on May 27 with a starting price of 498,000 yuan.

The ES9 topped 10,000 deliveries in about 30 days, setting a record for the fastest deliveries among all-electric models priced above 500,000 yuan in China.

Higher-priced models are improving Nio’s financials. Deutsche Bank expects the company to reach non-GAAP breakeven in the second quarter.

Cost pressure is emerging, however. Founder, chairman and CEO William Li said on July 10 that rising raw material prices had increased the ES8’s cost by nearly 20,000 yuan per vehicle.

He said the company is working with supply chain partners to hedge part of the cost in an effort to keep prices stable.

Nio Inc as a whole delivered 35,934 vehicles in July, up 70.98 percent year-on-year while down 11.49 percent from June.
