A Winnipeg Sea Bears player is in hospital following an assault downtown on Sunday night, the team said in a news release.
Teddy Allen, a former Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) MVP who rejoined the Sea Bears this spring, is “currently receiving medical care.”
“Head coach and general manager Mike Raimbault and Chair David Asper have been at the hospital with Teddy this morning,” the Sea Bears said Monday.
“Our focus is on Teddy’s health and supporting him and his family.”
A Winnipeg police spokesperson told CityNews they are “aware of the incident” and are investigating. “There is no further information available.”
The team did not provide more information about the alleged assault either.
“The organization is cooperating fully,” the CEBL franchise said.
Allen returned to the Sea Bears organization this April, nearly two years after being released for what the team described as a “misalignment of values and vision of the path forward for the club.”
