Stephanie Grisham files temporary restraining order against Rep. Max Miller

Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham filed a temporary restraining order against Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, her attorney announced Monday.

Grisham’s restraining order comes as Miller, 37, faces mounting calls to resign in light of allegations made by his ex-wife Emily Moreno — daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio — that the congressman physically abused her and their 2-year-old daughter. Miller has denied the allegations, which were made in court filings as part of the former couple’s ongoing custody dispute.

It was unclear in the immediate aftermath of that announcement why the restraining order is being filed at this time.

Grisham and Miller, who dated in 2019 and 2020, have been involved in a separate legal battle, after Grisham published a 2021 op-ed in the Washington Post describing an abusive relationship with her boyfriend who was, at the time, a White House staffer. While Grisham did not disclose the name of her boyfriend, Miller sued her for defamation hours after the op-ed was published and denied any allegations of abuse.

At the time, Miller was running for a House seat in Ohio’s 16th Congressional District.

Miller later dropped his defamation lawsuit against Grisham and both parties signed a nondisclosure agreement that noted they could not speak about each other in disparaging ways, according to court documents obtained by the Ohio Capital Journal.

“The settlement included certain promises that Congressman Miller made to our client Stephanie Grisham, and those promises were broken,” Marc Dann, Grisham’s lawyer, told the Journal.
