SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Voters will head to the polls on August 4 for the primary election in Missouri.

Statewide Races:
- Amendment 1 – Renews the tax used for social services, water conservation, and state parks and historic sites for 10 years. Learn more about the amendment by clicking here.
- Amendment 2 – Requires all charter counties to provide for the election of a county assessor. Learn more about the amendment by clicking here.
- Amendment 4 – Requires congressional district approval for initiated constitutional amendments, prohibits foreign contributions, and penalizes petition fraud. Learn more about the amendment by clicking here.
- Amendment 5 – It phases out individual state income tax and allows lawmakers to raise or implement sales taxes to replace the revenue. Learn more about the amendment by clicking here.
- State Auditor – Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick is on the Republican Party Ballot against Gerald Wistrand Jr. On the Democratic Party Ballot are Quentin Wilson and Gregory Upchurch. Watch one-on-one interviews with each of the candidates for both parties by clicking here.
Congressional Races:
- Southwest Missouri Congressman Eric Burlison faces challengers John Casey and Grayson Hunt for the Republican nomination for District 7. Watch one-on-one interviews with each candidate by clicking here. Democrat Missi Hesketh and Libertarian Kevin Craig do not face challengers.
- Western Missouri Congressman Mark Alford faces challengers Heather Shelton and Scott Vincent Vera for the Republican nomination. Seven Democrats will battle for that nomination. - On the Republican Party ballot for U.S. Representative District 3 in central Missouri are the incumbent Bob Onder and John G. Fraser. On the Democratic Party Ballot are Bethany Mann, Paul Wilson, and Tommy Holstein.
State Senate & Missouri Races:
- There are several contested state senate races, including for the Republican nomination for District 20 that features incumbent Curtis Trent and challenger Lori Rook. Tax Questions:
- Several school and fire districts are asking voters to approve tax levy increases or bonds. Voters in several cities, including Lebanon and West Plains, will decide sales tax initiatives. KY3 has done several stories on these issues. Watch those by clicking here.
County Races:
- Voters in nearly every county will decide countywide offices. Several counties, including Camden, Christian, and Polk Counties, will decide nominations for presiding commissioner.
Election Day Voting:
Polls open in Missouri at 6 a.m. They close at 7 p.m. If you are in line at 7 p.m., you will get to vote.

Missouri’s Voter ID Law:
Show one of the forms of acceptable identification and sign the poll book to obtain your ballot:
- A nonexpired Missouri driver or non-driver license
- A nonexpired military ID, including a veteran’s ID card
- A nonexpired United States passport
- Another photo ID issued by the United States or the state of Missouri is either not expired or expired after the most recent general election date
- *If the driver or non-driver license has expired after the most recent general election, it is an acceptable form of voter ID.
If you do not possess any of these forms of identification but are a registered voter, you may cast a provisional ballot.
Your provisional ballot will count if: (1) you return to your polling place on Election Day with a photo ID, or (2) the signature on your provisional ballot envelope is determined by your local election authority to match the signature on your voter registration record.
If you cast a provisional ballot, you will receive a stub from your provisional ballot envelope with instructions on how to verify that your provisional ballot is counted.
